How to Remove Cat Urine Smell Using Household Ingredients
If you want to know how to remove cat urine smell effectively, you first need to know how you can detect it. The
easiest way to find the affected area is by using a UV light. The sodden area will immediately show up using this tool, you so can then get to work clearing it up.
There are several ways that can be used to clean up cat urine and also eliminate cat odors. You’d be surprised that there are in fact, several natural and household ingredients you can use to solve this problem:
White vinegar – White vinegar is one of the popular methods to remove cat urine smell. It does not simply remove the odor but also effectively removes the stain that the urine might leave behind. You can create a vinegar spray by combing some white vinegar with two parts of warm water. As you spray this over the cat urine, blot out the concoction using paper towels. To make sure no stains get left behind, rub the sprayed mist gently over the surface of the urinated area still using the paper towel.
Baking Soda – Another effective solution to to remove cat urine odor is baking soda. You can use this together with the vinegar and water mixture. You need to understand that it’s not just important to remove the urine smell because it is foul for people to smell, but also to prevent your cat from urinating at the same spot next time. If they still smell it in the area, there’s a big chance they will do it again there. After you have blotted or rubbed vinegar on the cat urine stain, the next thing to do would be to cover it entirely with baking soda. Coat thickly, so that the odor will be removed.
Bleach – Although there is some dispute about bleach being a real solution to removing cat urine smell, there’s no disputing the fact that this product has effective antibacterial properties. The smell of bleach is also something foreign to cats so it is highly unlikely that they will want to urinate again in the same place. Just make sure that the cleaning aid you use prior to applying bleach on the area does not contain any ammonia. You should also note that bleach should be used to alleviate any lingering smell, but not to clean the urinated place, and should not be used on colored carpets.
These are just some of the effective methods on how to remove cat urine smell. There are several more very effective methods you can use if you find the ones above don’t work for you, or they aren’t really practical for your situation.
